Nouveau casting de House saison 4
Examine the doctors who are in the running on 'House'
Comme dans la séries, sept acteurs sont en finale pour obetenir un rôle permanant dans la série:::
The new school
Their stories
Kal Penn, 30
You know him: As a neighborhood kid caught up in a terrorist sleeper cell last season on Fox's 24, as well as the co-star of the comedy Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle and next year's Harold & Kumar 2.
Plays: Lawrence Kutner, a physician with "an unorthodox way of looking at medicine," says Penn. In one episode so far, Kutner suggested that a patient drink shots of tequila to diagnose whether she had a liver problem, a tactic that impressed House (Hugh Laurie). "Kutner is so enthralled by medicine that he approaches every patient with the same vigor that he approached his first cadaver in medical school," Penn says.
Andy Comeau, 35
You know him: As Hank Azaria's schizophrenic brother, Teddy, on Showtime's Huff.
Plays: Travis Brennan, a epidemiologist who has seen more of the world than the rest of his colleagues by doing humanitarian work in Africa. "He's on the adult side of the group," says Comeau. "This is not Chapter 1 for him, it's like Chapter 9. He's already been in the thick of life and seen horrible things." He says he and the other six have a unique camaraderie based on the fact that they can compete only based on the lines each of them is handed: "It's not as though you can go up and beyond that."
Olivia Wilde, 23
You know her: As Alex, the lesbian girlfriend of Marisa Cooper on The OC, and as Jenny Reilly in The Black Donnellys.
Plays: "13," as in 13 of 40 candidates. Does she ever get a name? "Not as far as I know," says Wilde, who says she has become so used to the moniker that she answers whenever she hears the number. The most mysterious of the bunch, 13 "holds everything close to her vest," and knowing that House looks for weaknesses, she "doesn't tell him anything, literally nothing" about herself. She says she and her colleagues are pleased by strong ratings: "We were terrified ratings would plummet and viewers would riot and beg the producers to fire us."
Carmen Argenziano, 63
You know him: As Jacob Carter on Stargate SG-1, and from his guest stints on about 100 TV series since 1970.
Plays: Henry Dobson, the eldest of the bunch. In the last episode, he revealed he is not a physician but had learned by working for 30 years at a medical school. Yes, posing as a physician is unethical, but Argenziano says House bends rules all the time, and Dobson is hopeful "he'll bend one for me." Argenziano suspects producers have already chosen: "It's probably been all said and done at this point." But given House's unpredictability, he thinks some of the candidates could get the boot but return later.
Anne Dudek, 32
You know her: As neighbor Francine on the AMC drama Mad Men, and from guest stints on Desperate Housewives, Six Feet Under and Big Love.
Plays: Amber, a hyper-competitive, manipulative doctor "who thinks she's the best" and isn't above using deception to get what she wants, Dudek says. "We were all given very distinct characters to play and thrown into a world of characters that the audience already knows quite a bit about," Dudek says. The seven tryouts "have secrets and clash with each other and like each other. It's a new discovery every week to see who it is that you're playing."
Peter Jacobson, 42
You know him: From numerous guest roles in TV shows including Boston Legal, Criminal Minds and Law & Order.
Plays: Chris Taub, a successful Park Avenue plastic surgeon who relishes the chance to share in House's genius and maybe go up against him on occasion. Taub has had a "bit of a career/life crisis and is seeking deeper and more or less complicated pastures," says Jacobson. He says he went into the role a bit cautiously, knowing that his character could be axed at any time and that it might be tense among him and the other tryouts. Instead, "we've all gotten along so well. We tease each other about who's going to go."
Edi Gathegi, 28
You know him: From the new movie Gone Baby Gone.
Plays: Cole, a Mormon doctor whose religion plays a big role in his life. Cole "is a very moral guy. He strives for perfection, and as a doctor, his medicine renews his faith in his religion. He sees God every day through the miracles that are performed in the hospital." But there's an edgy side to Cole, says Gathegi. "He's not as perfect as you would think. He's got secrets." He says the cast talks all the time about who might or might not make the cut. "Everybody has their own theories. Our destinies are established on an episode-by-episode basis."
